TheFork Festival gives you twice as many reasons to dine out, with 50 per cent off food at hundreds of participating restaurants around Australia until 9 February. Here are some of the tastiest offerings we’ve found in the harbour city.
Meat and Wine Co, Barangaroo
Located on the ground level of International Tower One, the Meat and Wine Co brings its premium grass-fed or grain-fed steaks, world class dishes and a paddock to plate ethos to the streets of Barangaroo. The signature African-inspired basting is a true drawcard.
Aqua Dining, Milsons Point
As its name suggests Aqua Dining is quintessential Sydney waterside dining, overlooking North Sydney Olympic Pool, with views of the Harbour Bridge and Opera House. The contemporary Italian menu features dishes such as Tagliolini with lemon butter, scarlet prawns and bottarga or Pork belly with spinach, wasabi, bok choy and shiso.
Capriccio Osteria, Leichhardt
This bright and welcoming locale in the heart of Leichhardt’s Little Italy will tantalise your tastebuds with dishes such as Wood-fired porchetta with roasted peach and pickled green tomato and Basil fazzoletti with banana prawn and tomato. Add a glass of house rosso or bianco straight out of the wine barrel for the perfect night out.
Pasture of Balmoral, Mosman
This superbly located café is literally a stone’s throw from picturesque Balmoral Beach, and open for lunch every day and dinner Thursday to Saturday. The owners have generational ties to the land, which shows through the carefully selected produce that the menu showcases.
Osteria Antica, Annandale
A true neighbourhood gem in the heart of Annandale village, Osteria Antica offers a crowd pleasing Italian menu with hand-rolled pasta and wood-fired pizzas. It’s the perfect venue for everything from date nights to large gatherings of family or friends.
Flying Fajita Sistas, Glebe
A Glebe favourite, Flying Fajita Sistas brings a taste of Mexico to the inner west, showcasing local seasonal produce as well as imported spices and ingredients that you won’t often find outside Mexico or the US. Order up a shared feast of appetisers and mixed fajitas, and your choice of drinks (from mezcal and tequila to jugs of sangria) and enjoy.
Riva Bar & Kitchen, Avalon
Riva is the whole Northern Beaches package, offering well-crafted cocktails and relaxed modern Australian dining in an elegant beachside location. Signature dishes include Slow poached salmon with fennel and orange salad, dried olives and ginger froth, or a Whole duck (for two) with port braised cabbage and Cointreau sauce.
Via Alta, Willoughby
At this Willoughby favourite, it’s all about family-style sharing. Order an Italian feast or choose your own adventure from the a la carte menu, which features much-loved dishes including Melanzana alla parmigiana and Veal saltimbocca. The dedicated kids’ menu is always a hit.
Olio Kensington St, Chippendale
Located in Chippendale’s burgeoning Kensington Street precinct, Olio is all about new Sicilian cooking, led by internationally renowned chef Lino Saura. The olive oil that gives the restaurant its name comes from the chef’s own family farm in Sicily.
RK San, Surry Hills
RK San is all about contemporary Japanese cooking in a beautiful Surry Hills venue. The fresh and exciting menu, created by esteemed Executive Chef RK Tamang, ranges from delicate sashimi to crunchy tempura and miso butter salmon. Can’t choose? Order a tasting platter so you can sample multiple menu items – the chef selection is to die for.
